In Wimbledon, David´s Ranking is Respected.
The man from Cordoba, David Nalbandian, who achieved world recognition when reaching the finals in Wimbledon in 2002, was seeded seventh in the English Grand Slam, starting on June 23rd in the All England Tennis Club. The tournament’s organizers respected the Argentine number one’s ranking, being the only member of the “Legion” among the heads of the series in singles draws. The six players before Nalbandian in the list of seeds are the Swiss Roger Federer, winner of the last five titles; followed by the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, runner-up the last two years; the Serbian Novak Djokovic; the Russian Nikolay Davydenko; the Spaniard David Ferrer; and the American Andy Roddick. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam which does not strictly respect the world qualification when choosing the heads of the series and studies the individual career of the players on matches played on grass.
