Gestures of Solidarity from Tennis Players in South America
Taking on social responsibility is a tendency among sport stars, who use part of their profits and time to help needy people of the area. Outstanding Latin American tennis players, such as the man from Cordoba, the Chilean Fernando Gonzalez, the Brazilian Gustavo “Guca” Kuerten, the Ecuadorian Nicolas Lapentti and the Argentine Carlos Berlocq, have decided to take on social responsibility. In addition to these Latin Americans, the Spaniard Rafael Nadal has also joined. Nalbandian has the Foundation which bears his name. “It is a dream that came true. I want to help special people”, he said about his decision. But he is not the only one. Gonzalez gave for the second consecutive year his support to the “Tennis Cup for the Children of the Hogar de Cristo”; Kuerten has the Institute which develops educational and sports projects for people with disabilities; and Lapentti decided to create a foundation for children suffering from cancer. Belocq, 122nd of the world, develops tennis clinics and gives money away to the Club Atletico Chascomus, where he began playing, as well as to municipal schools of the area. The man from Cordoba took the initiative into this good habit, as he did on tennis courts.
