David is Confident of Claiming a Medal for Argentina
The man from Cordoba, David Nalbandian, leader of the Argentine tennis team in the Olympic Games, stated “Argentina has chances” of getting a medal in Beijing and emphasized the advantage in doubles (he plays with Guillermo Cañas) over the rest of the countries since two fellow compatriots do not normally play together in the professional circuit. “I’m here to push hard to win and I think I can do it. Argentina has chances in tennis in these Games. We have a good doubles pair with Willy (Cañas); every time we played in the Davis, we did a good job. In the professional circuit most of the doubles players are from different countries, although there are exceptions, like the brothers Bryan and some Czechs”, he assured. The Unquillo-born player, ranked seventh in the world, showed he is eager to win the tournament because “by winning, you get something you’ll keep for life”, though he admitted that the tournament where the best of the world are playing is difficult. “Everybody has a great motivation. Aside from one or two who are injured, the best players of the world are in Beijing, from the first to the 50th. In the past, the Games complicated things in the schedule since no points were awarded. But that has changed and now they are all here”.
