David Left Beijing: I Lacked a Steady Pace in Matches
David Nalbandian, the man from Cordoba, attributes his defeat against the French Gael Monfils, in the third round of Olympic tennis, to his “lack of steady pace” due to his period of inactivity caused by the physical problems he suffered in his hip during the last months. “I am in a foul mood for having lost. But this was probably something to expect because I played without a steady pace”, the man from Cordoba explained, after his defeat in the central court of the Olympic Green Tennis Center of this city. “I really wanted to play well and do something big, but it was not the case. It hurts because one does know if one will be still playing in four years to participate in another Olympic Games”, he added. Nalbandian stated that it was a great “satisfaction” having the support from the spectators who were members of the Argentine basketball team, including “Manu” Ginobili, the pole-vaulter Alejandra Garcia, the judoka Miguel Albarracin and other members of the national delegation. “They are referents of Argentina in sports and it is a great satisfaction that they come to cheer”, he said.
