David could not confirm the good things he had begun to show in the US Open. After winning twice in two consecutive sets, yesterday he lost again to the French Gael Monfils, 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2, in one hour and 19 minutes. The French´s services were accurate (62% against the 44 of the man from Cordoba in first services) and he made 12 straight services against 3 of the man from Unquillo. Monfils had recently eliminated him in the Olympic Games in Beijing, but Nalbandian´s good start on hard courts in Flushing Meadows made people hold out hopes that he would continue being a competitor. Now he will come back to the country to start his training for the forthcoming Davis Cup against Russia, in the semifinals of the “ensaladera”, to be played between the 19th and 21st of September in Parque Roca (Buenos Aires). The results of the US Open plus the fact that David improves his performance in the Davis, will probably make the Captain “Luli” Mancini choose him and Juan Martín Del Potro as the single players against the Russians.
