Davis Cup: David sent another Letter to Morea
The top-ten player and number one in Argentina, David Nalbandian, wrote again a letter to Enrique Morea, president of the AAT, after the controversy caused by the choice of Mar del Plata as final venue for the Davis Cup. After “Mardel” was chosen, David demanded an explanation but Morea´s answer was not very convincing. David wrote the following lines from Basel: “President of the Argentine Association of Tennis, ENRIQUE JORGE MOREA. I am writing this letter to let you know my opinion about your reply dating 20/10/08, since such letter does not answer any of my questions and requests clearly stated before; notifying that if the Association claims to have favored the request of the Captain of the team dating 29/09/08, it has overlooked his opinion which goes: “…together with the players, we have come to the conclusion that the best option from the sports point of view is the city of Córdoba since its altitude is about 500 meters above sea level, considering this a factor in favor of our team”. Favoring then the conclusion of the team, it is clear that the host country is the one who proposes the “venue” (as it is usual everywhere else) and not the one who proposes alternatives. Giving credence to what has been said, it is more than clear than Córdoba was not disqualified as venue, but that the venue was chosen among the alternatives suggested by that Association. For this reason, the I.T.F chose on the basis of supposedly comparative and not favoring data, making it obvious then that the failure to choose the venue which was best from the sports point of view continues being a mystery without convincing explanations. Anyway, from my deep and authentic sports spirit, I want you to know Mr. president, that you will count as always on my greatest effort for this final since every Argentine deserves it and specially those who love tennis and long for and dream about the team´s victory. Yours sincerely, David Nalbandian”.
