The “King” got off to a good start in the ATP 500 in Barcelona. He defeated the Russian Igor Kunitsvn 7-5 and 6-4 in the second round in an hour and 26 minutes. Although he did not give up sets, the man from Córdoba did not serve well. His effectiveness was only 48% in first serves and made four double-faults. However, that was enough to win and make his way to the third round. At that moment, he will face the Spaniard Nicolás Almagro who has beaten “el Flaco” Juan Ignacio Chela 3-6, 7-6 (4) and 6-3. The man from Unquillo and the Spaniard have faced each other three times; Almagro is 2-1 over. The two victories were on clay (the surface in Barcelona) in 2008. David won in 2007 on a hard court.
