David withdrew from Conde de Godó due to an injury
David won’t be able to play quarter finals in Conde de Godó, in Barcelona, due to a "hip injury". David finished the match against the Spaniard Nicolás Almagro feeling an acute pain in his hip. After seeing the doctor of the tournament, he was told that the best option was not playing quarter finales against the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, world’s number one. “His hip is not in good condition to face quarter finals”, stated Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, doctor of the Spanish Federation of Tennis, when announcing that the man from Unquillo was withdrawing and, therefore, not playing the eagerly awaited duel against the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, world’s number one. The doctor explained that “David has been suffering from an inflammation on the right hip, and has been playing with feelings of discomfort which have become worse as he played matches”. Ruiz Cotorro stated that after the match Nalbandian played against the Spaniard Nicolás Almagro today, (whom he defeated 6-3 and 6-4) “medical tests were performed and his hip is not in condition to face quarter finals”. “It seems that the hip is withstanding excess weight, but this kind of injury can get worse if he goes on playing", said Ruiz Cotorro, who will carry out new tests tomorrow. The doctor prescribed some anti-inflammatory and will go on with the treatment next week; this is the reason why David had to withdraw and will not participate in the Masters 1000 in Rome. The next tournament he may be playing is the ATP in Estoril (Portugal) and if the results are good, he could play the Masters 1000 in Madrid. David will not come back to Córdoba; he will stay in Europe to undergo the treatment for his recovery.
