8 Years after his Debut in the Masters Series
In 2000 David was only 18 when he decided to play in the qualification round for the Key Biscayne Masters Series (Florida, USA). He won all the matches and in his entrance to the main draw he beat the Slovakian Jan Kroslak (111th in the world) – up to that point this was the major triumph of his career—and qualified for his first Masters Series. His debut in the main draw was no less spectacular. He was defeated by former number one in the world, the American Jim Courier, 7-5 in the first set. It was the preview of a great career to come.
